The Scoop

So here is how our referral day went down...I had just dropped Spencer off at preschool and had to stop at the grocery store for just a couple items. We had just arrived at the store when the call came. When I saw the 541 area code on my phone my heart immediately began to race. When I answered, all I heard was "I have a little girl for you." I immediately starting crying. She started to say more but I wasn't taking anything in so I asked if I could call her back when I had Ryan on the phone and was out of the store. I called Ryan right away and it kept going to voice mail. I think he picked up on the 3rd time and I couldn't even get any words out. He said to head to the car and he'd call me back in 5 minutes. I was only 5 minutes from home so I quickly drove home (thankfully didn't run into a cop) and we called Holt back together. She told us about our daughter and my heart immediately began to ache for her. And then she sent us a few pictures of her and her history and background. I have never felt so much happiness and grief at the same time. I grieved for her....her story and what she must be going through. It is a story we will let her share when she is older. She is beautiful. She has the sweetest little face. We already love her. And Spencer and Blake are very excited to have a baby sister. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. We still have a long wait ahead of us until we can bring her home.

Overjoyed

We are so excited to share the news we've been matched with our daughter! We received our referral Tuesday morning for beautiful 17 month old "E." The call came exactly one year from the date we began our official wait.

All I want is to get on a plane and go get her. Unfortunately, we now have more waiting, and I think this wait is going to be the toughest.

We have to wait for a court date, which should occur approximately 2-3 months from now, then we travel to get her approximately 2 months after that. Our hope is to bring her home in July/August.

Due to Ethiopian government rules and our agency rules, we cannot post pictures of her until we we return home.

Thanks everyone for all your encouragement and support. We are over the moon!

Hiatus

Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Our agency predicted movement within a week. We do know some children are already in care and the staff in Ethiopia is getting all their paperwork together so that they can be referred to a family. We don't know whether these children are girls, boys, older or younger, but there are children about to be referred. I get that our agency is just doing their best to give us some indicator of when to expect a referral and in actuality, all it is is a prediction. But still, how can you not get your hopes up based on those predictions? So the waiting continues. And since we are still waiting for a referral, I've decided to take a little hiatus from posting. Because how boring are these posts about waiting? We started this journey November, 2008 and have seen wait times jump multiple times. And yes, we are so so glad we changed agencies because those still waiting with our prior agency expect the wait to grow to at least two years. But I'm feeling like a broken-record. How many times can you say "not yet"? I remain hopeful our daughter is on the path to us and that she is close. Please send good thoughts our way that it's not too much longer before I can post good news.
