A Preschooler's View...

It's Okay To Be Different

Love this book.

Once you've read it to your children a couple of times, let your preschooler read it to you based on the pictures. Out of the mouth of my 4 year old:

"It's okay to be striped"

"It's okay to eat lots and lots of ice cream"
"It's okay to smell stinky"
And my personal favorite...
"It's okay to have no head"

One year ago today we got the call that changed our lives. "We have a little girl for you." We knew we had been on the journey to HER and were meant to be her family.

You are an amazing little girl, Etta Jane.
You bring so much joy to everyone you touch.
Today and always we celebrate you.

Good Thoughts

Today in Ethiopia, a big meeting will take place between MOWCYA, the State Department and the Adoption Network that may have a big impact on when we can bring Etagegn's sister home. We are hoping to learn more on whether the proposed 90% reduction in cases is in fact implemented. If it is, it could mean we are waiting up to another year to bring our daughter home.

Right now, I am hopeful. I am hopeful that with so many people concerned about children's well-being, good decisions will be made. Thoughtful decisions that include the need for greater scrutiny to ensure each and every adoption is ethical and transparent, but that don't mean children are growing up in orphanages.

I wish I could share a picture with you of her sister. But since I can't, I'll share sweet Etta's face...then imagine an older looking Etta with that same sparkle!

Submitted to Court!

Amidst all the rumors of a major slowdown in the processing of adoption cases, we got some good news today. Our case has been submitted to court! Now we wait to hear about a court date.

I continue to feel strongly that everyone needs to work together to ensure adoptions in Ethiopia are ethical and transparent, and that those agencies who are not upholding those ethics are shut down. We are fortunate in that we know our adoption of Etagegn was ethical and in her best interest. And we know the same for her sister. And the thought of her sister being stuck in an orphanage for many more months or even years is unbearable.

I don't have the answers....but I hope the Ethiopian government figures out a solution other than the proposed slowdown which would result in far too many children literally growing up in orphanages.

Anxious to have her home with us and re-united with her sister.

Update and Picture!

A lot to be happy about today...we received an updated health report on sweet "M" and also a picture! And the best part about it is that she's smiling. She really looks happy. It does bring us peace to know she is being so well-cared for, but it is still really difficult knowing the wait to bring her home is so long (still thinking end of summer timeframe).

We know more pictures are on their way in the next day or two so we're anxious to see them. We showed the kids her latest picture and Etta still thinks it's her. She says "Me!" They do look a lot alike :-)

For now, we've got a picture of our beautiful daughter that we'll stare at and imagine life when she comes home...
